No Greater Sacrifice (NGS) supporters are showing up in force for the children of our nation's fallen and severely wounded post-9/11 Service members. In September, friends of NGS teed off at the 13th Annual No Greater Sacrifice Invitational just outside Washington, D.C. Two days later, the leadership and employees of UBS Manhattan Market kicked off this year's giving campaign, once again standing with NGS and the military families and children we support. Both events help us carry forward the promise to continue our mission of providing higher education and support.

NGS continues our year-end fundraising initiative, the Freedom's Future Campaign, which kicked off last month. Through our program, we reduce the financial burden of higher education and nurture each Scholar's potential, as we walk alongside these families and invest in their children's futures. Through the Freedom's Future Campaign, you can make a direct difference in the lives of NGS Scholars. Help us reach our year-end goals by giving today.

We remember their service. We honor their sacrifices. We stand beside their families. We invest in their children's futures.

On September 28th, NGS welcomed sponsors to the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club for the 13th Annual No Greater Sacrifice Invitational. On a fall day just outside Washington, DC, the tournament brought together members of Congress, corporate partners, and longtime NGS supporters for a day on the course in support of the children of our fallen and severely wounded heroes.

The Chism family represented NGS at this year's tournament. Army Staff Sergeant Cody Chism was severely wounded during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2008. His wife, Vanessa, serves as a national advocate for caregivers of severely wounded veterans. SSG Chism's children - Gavin, Sophia, and Caroline - have grown up supporting their father.

Gavin is pursuing a degree in Political Science at the University of Maryland, with plans to attend law school and serve as a lobbyist and advocate for wounded veterans and military families. Sophia is in Towson University's pre-veterinary program, pursuing her dream of becoming a veterinarian. Caroline is a bright light in middle school.

"I am so grateful to No Greater Sacrifice for investing in my kids and helping them turn their experiences into purpose. What a blessing it is to watch your children take what life has given them and choose to use it to make a difference for others."

— Vanessa Chism

UBS Manhattan Market Annual Kick-Off

On September 30th, UBS Financial Services' Manhattan Market launched this year's employee giving campaign for No Greater Sacrifice (NGS).

Since 2010, UBS employees and leadership have raised more than $2.8 million for NGS, funding customized scholarships for the children of our nation's fallen and severely wounded post-9/11 Service members. This year's campaign continues that 16-year commitment.

NGS Recipient family Kimberly, Wyatt, and Cody Kapacziewski joined UBS Manhattan Market employees and the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation at the kickoff. Wyatt is in eleventh grade with an interest in finance and investing. Cody is in ninth grade and enjoys robotics and production technology. Army SFC Joe Kapacziewski was severely wounded in an ambush in Northern Iraq in 2005, staying on active duty through his recovery and earning the distinction of the first Ranger to return to combat with a prosthetic leg. His dedication to the mission remained unwavering until his passing in 2023.

"Resilience shouldn't mean doing everything alone. I can tell you that from experience. Because of No Greater Sacrifice, I'm not raising these boys alone. And, they don't have to carry our loss as a limit on what they can become."

— Kimberly Kapacziewski, Surviving Spouse of SFC Joe Kapacziewski and mother of NGS Recipients, Wyatt and Cody

NGS is deeply grateful to UBS Manhattan Market's leadership and employees for their extraordinary, sustained generosity. Special thanks to Kellie Brady, Brianne Vita, and Vaden Scott for making the campaign possible.

This month, NGS's Freedom's Future Campaign continues with another NGS family. Meet the King family.

Retired U.S. Army Master Sergeant Cedric King served through multiple combat deployments before an IED changed his life in Afghanistan in 2012. Cedric lost both legs and sustained severe injuries to his right hand.

What followed was not simply recovery, but a family learning how to move forward together.

Cedric went on to run many marathons - in cities like New York City, Boston, and Sydney, Australia - complete a 70.3 Ironman, summit mountains, and author The Making Point: How to Succeed When You're at Your Breaking Point. Beside him through the uncertainty and recovery was his wife, Khieda, providing the steady love and leadership that helped their family navigate profound change.

Today, their daughters are building futures distinctly their own. Amari, an NGS Scholar at Brenau University, is pursuing Theatre Arts and hopes to turn her creativity and love of hairstyling into a career designing wigs and creating hairstyles backstage. NGS Scholar Khamya is attending Gwinnett Technical College, building a creative path of her own.

"My daughter felt guilty because she knew how much college cost, and she knew that we didn't have the money to cover it. NGS has taken the guilt part out of our family. Because of NGS, my kids are going to get the opportunity to do what they love doing for the rest of their lives....not what they have to do, what they love to do."

— MSG Cedric King, USA (Ret.)
