NGS Scholar
Deryn Allen
In honor of Deryn's father, SSG Charles "Chaz" Allen, U.S. Army
Deryn Allen is a senior studying biology with a concentration in Microbiology, at Tennessee Technological University. She is also on Tennessee Tech’s cheerleading team. After graduating, Deryn is planning on pursuing a master’s degree in public health.
In 2011, when Deryn was just eight years old when her father, Army Staff Sergeant Charles "Chaz" Allen, stepped on a 40-pound improvised explosive device (IED) while on a dismounted patrol in Afghanistan. He instantly lost both legs along with other injuries. He needed countless surgeries and blood transfusions to help stabilize him. He and his family spent two years recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. After a mostly full recovery, Deryn and her family moved back to Clarksville, TN.
No Greater Sacrifice has been extremely helpful with Deryn’s success in college. The NGS organization has been encouraging Deryn and continues to support her drive to complete a master’s degree after she finishes her bachelor’s degree.

She has been an incredible caregiver to her father and has stepped up to help her family many times over the years. I believe she is called to serve others. She is an amazing daughter, a wonderful sister, and well-loved by her teachers and coaches.
The NGS scholarship truly lightens the load on our family and we are so appreciative!
