NGS Scholar · Class of 2019
Boston Gilbert
In honor of Boston's father, MAJ Troy Gilbert, U.S. Air Force
Boston Gilbert is a former No Greater Sacrifice Recipient who attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, earning a B.S. in Applied Physiology with a concentration in Sport Management, where he played on the Men's Soccer team. He later earned a Master's in Leadership from Dallas Baptist University.
His father, Major Troy "Trojan" Gilbert, a U.S. Air Force F-16 fighter pilot, was killed in action near Taji, Iraq on November 27, 2006, while supporting special operations forces under heavy enemy fire.
Today Boston serves as NGS's Associate Director, mentoring and coaching the next generation of Scholars.
Without the help of No Greater Sacrifice my dream of attending SMU would have been almost impossible. The unique scholarship gave me a foundation to succeed academically, athletically, and socially.
Knowing that organizations like No Greater Sacrifice exist makes me feel thankful that people go to such great lengths in investing in the families of fallen American heroes. By pouring into my life this way, NGS reminds me that my father’s memory and life are still very much a part of him fulfilling his dream for me to attend college.
My Dad was the first person in his family to graduate from college and this scholarship substantially affected my ability to accomplish my dream and carry on my father’s legacy.
My Dad, Major Troy Gilbert, gave his life in the defense of our nation. I will forever miss him, especially on the biggest days that I still have ahead of me, but I know that he would be proud of me and very proud of organizations like yours. I am eternally grateful for NGS.
